Laurel River Lake and Lake Cumberland Camping Prohibitions
1) Camping within 300 feet of the high water line of the portion of Upper Lake Cumberland, from the Mouth of Laurel Boat Ramp upstream on the Laurel River, and from the Sheltowee Trace National Recreation Trail to the administrative boundary between National Forest System and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ lands; 2) Camping within 300 feet of the water’s edge of Laurel River Lake or Lake Cumberland except at sites designated for camping; and 3) Camping within 300 feet of any Road or Trail leading to the water’s edge of Laurel River Lake or Lake Cumberland except at sites designated for camping is prohibited.

Pursuant to the provisions of 16 U.S.C., Section 551, and in Title 36 C.F.R. Part 261 as listed below, to provide for visitor safety, I am prohibiting the following acts:
LOCATION: The portions of National Forest System lands containing LAUREL RIVER LAKE and LAKE CUMBERLAND on the London Ranger District of the Daniel Boone National Forest. The area is further described in the attached map.
EFFECTIVE DATE: This Closure Order is in effect May 11, 2015 and continues until rescinded.
PROHIBITED ACTS:
- Camping within 300 feet of the following areas:
- High water line of the portion of Upper Lake Cumberland from the Mouth of Laurel Boat Ramp upstream on the Laurel River; or
- Sheltowee Trace National Recreation Trail (NRT-100) to the administrative boundary between National Forest System and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ lands (36 CFR 261.58(e));
- Camping within 300 feet of the water’s edge of Laurel River Lake or Lake Cumberland except at sites designated for camping (36 CFR 261.58(e));
- Camping within 300 feet of any Road or Trail leading to the water’s edge of Laurel River Lake or Lake Cumberland except at sites designated for camping (36 CFR 261.58(e));
Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:
- Any Federal, State or Local Officer, or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force engaged in the performance of an official duty;
- Any authorized person engaged in official administrative duties regarding National Forest Administration;
- Persons with a permit specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission.
These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 CFR Part 261, Subpart A.

Violations of the above prohibition set forth are punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual and $10,000 for an organization or imprisonment for not more than six (6) months or both. See 16 U.S.C. 551, 18 U.S.C. 3559 and 3571.
