Alum Trail

Current Conditions
Closed due to damage from the 2026 Alum Wildfire.

The 2.25-mile Alum Trail leads users from a ridge top on the Daniel Boone National Forest National down to its connection with the Sheltowee Trace National Recreation Trail at the edge of the Big South Fork of the Cumberland River in Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. Rhododendron, mountain laurel and hemlock are abundant along the trail. The trail is moderately difficult with significant elevation change and a series of carved stone steps near the start of the descent. There are also several stream crossings with stepping stones.
