Buffalo Campground is located 26 miles south of West Yellowstone, Montana in beautiful Island Park, Idaho along the banks of the Buffalo River at an elevation of 6,200 feet. A mixed growth pine forest provides partial shade; aspens dot the landscape, and summer wildflowers are abundant. The Buffalo River has good brook and rainbow trout fishing. Wildlife can be frequently spotted throughout the area. Buffalo Campground boasts 117 single units, 4 double units, and 1 group site. It has some power hook-ups and is a good fishing spot.

Information Center: E-Loop is the Group Site C-Loop has electricity in all the campsites.  Reservations can be made through the National Reservation System for Sites C-1 through C-12 and all site in B and F Loops. This campground has first-come, first-serve sites.

General Information

Directions:

From West Yellowstone, Montana, take Highway 20 south for 26 miles to the campground (less than1/4 mile north of Ponds Lodge on the east side of the highway).  From Idaho Falls, ID take Highway 20 north 80 miles to Ponds Lodge, the entry way to the campground is on the east side of Highway 20 across from Ponds Lodge.


Accessibility:

Buffalo Campground has universally accessible campsites, flush toilets, and an accessible fishing dock located on the east end of the campground.


General Notes:

This campground lies adjacent to the Buffalo River.  The flat, shallow river is a favorite with floaters and fisherman.  The campground does provide parking for fisherman.

Canoeing, tubing and trout fishing are popular activities.

Two miles to the west of Buffalo Campground is the Island Park Boat Ramp for the Island Park Reservior.  Activities on the reservoir include fishing, jet-skiing, waterskiing, tubing and boating.

Group Camping

The E-Loop Group Site has 16 campsites, flush toilets,  water, volleyball area and a large parking area.  It can accomodate up to 150 people.  There are 2 pull through sites #9 and #16.
