This is a nice, quiet and clean campground nestled among piñon and juniper trees.

The camp sites are nestled among mature piñon and juniper trees. It is tranquil and undiscovered with a few sites having a view of Quemado Lake. The campground is comprised of a family camping loop (east side) and a group camping loop (west side). The dump station is open when the campground is open and the fee for use of the dump station is $15 per use.

Operational Hours: All campgrounds on the Gila National Forest have a 14-day stay limit. The campground is scheduled to be open from Friday, May 10, 2024 through Monday, September 23, 2024.
Reservations: This campground is first-come/first-serve, except group site A and group site B. Group site A & B are reservable on Recreation.gov, typically from mid-May through the end of season.

Quemado is 21 miles from the campground. AG Country Propane (open M-F 8:00 a.m. - 5 p.m.) sells fishing licenses.

 


Directions:

The campground is located southeast of Quemado, NM. Take NM 32 south 14.2 miles to Quemado Lake/NM 103 sign. At sign turn left onto NM 103 and go 4 miles to where Forest Road 13 (gravel) begins. Continue straight on FR 13 for 1.4 miles to campground sign. Turn left into campground.

Campground Camping

There are 23 developed tent sites each with picnic tables and fire rings/bbq grills.  The tent sites are available on a first come, first served basis and there is a $15/day fee.  The sites have level gravel pads.  Group site A & B are reservable on Recreation.gov.

Day Hiking

Piñon Access Trail (foot trail starting next to site 47 and 0.8 miles long) provides access to Quemado Lake and a network of area trails.

Occasionally elk may be seen. Be careful driving at night since elk are often on the roads. The upper end of the lake provides ideal habitat.
