Recent Publications

I retired from the Forest Service Research Program in 2007, but remain active on a variety of projects with scientists and students in the lab and throughout the region.

My personal research has focused on: larger patterns in species distributions and the processes relevant to the dynamics and persistence of populations at watershed and larger scales. I have been particularly interested in metapopulation processes and in the expression of life histories as mechanisms potentially stabilizing populations in spatially and temporally variable environments.  I believe this kind of knowledge will be key to effective prioritization of limited conservation management resources in the face of climate change, changing disturbance regimes and non-native species invasions.

1) Native fishes, and wildfire: Conflict and opportunity in the integration of terrestrial and aquatic management.

2) Evaluation of the tradeoffs between Native Fish Passage Restoration and Associated Threats from Invasions by Nonnative Fishes
