Peterson, Susan L.. 2004. Moving Small Mountains—Vesuvius Dam Rehab. 0471 3811. Engineering Field Notes: Volume 36 Issue 2. Washington DC: U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service, Engineering. 7 p.
In 1993, an engineering firm was hired to develop alternatives for the rehabilitation of the Vesuvius Lake Dam, an earthen dam owned by the USDA Forest Service in the Wayne National Forest on the southernmost tip of Ohio. Homes, a major highway, and a public school had been built below the 70-year old dam, causing it to be reclassified to high-hazard status. This article discusses the details of the dam's rehabilitation and includes photos of the rehabilitation process.
