Acoustical Wildlife Presence Monitoring

Status - FY 06

A contract solicitation was issued and cancelled due to poor response. The experience convinced us that it would be very expensive to fully develop this technology as identified in Tasks 1-3. (The few bids that we received on the solicitation had cost estimates well over $500K.) SDTDC (in concurrence with the Inventory & Monitoring Steering Committee) decided to focus primarily on Task 1.

Also, since the only information on the cost effectiveness of bioacoustical monitoring appears to be anecdotal, SDTDC focused on collecting data on the cost effectiveness of bioacoustical monitoring under actual field conditions on National Forest lands.
