Sound Level Meters for Assessment and Monitoring of Noise Impacts to Forest Wildlife Available Sound Level Meters A list of Type 1 and Type 2 meters, which by their published specifications appear to be suitable, is provided below. Rather than burden the reader with voluminous printed material, the websites from which full specifications can be downloaded are included. A few cautions are in order. The lists give only sound level meters, the calibrator is not included. It is strongly suggested that a carrying case, wind screen and calibrator be purchased from the same manufacturer as the meter to complete the measuring kit. Further, not all of the specifications, nor the prices, are always given on the website so direct inquiry will be required. The reader should note that a simple, uncomplicated Type 1 meter is no longer available. All of the Type 1 meters listed have more features than are required for routine field monitoring of sound levels. The reader would be well advised to obtain a sample meter and try it in the field before making such an expensive purchase.
