Each of these four symbols is described in further detail within a corresponding rectangular box of the same color, as follows.
- Symbol 0 on a red background is identified as referring to a Fire Hazard, with the following numerical designations:
- Will Not Burn
- Will Ignite if Preheated
- Will Ignite if Moderately Heated
- Will Ignite at Most Ambient Conditions
- Burns Readily at Ambient Conditions
- Symbol 3 on a blue background is identified as referring to a Health Hazard, with the following numerical designations:
- Normal Material
- Slightly Hazardous
- Hazardous
- Extreme Danger
- Deadly
- Symbol 2 on a yellow background is identified as referring to Reactivity, with the following numerical designations:
- Stable
- Unstable If Heated
- Violent Chemical Change
- Shock and Heat May Detonate
- May Detonate
- Symbol COR on a white background is identified as referring
to a Specific
Hazard, with the following identifiers:
- OXY — Oxidizer
- ACID — Acid
- ALK — Alkali
- COR — Corrosive
W— Use NO WATER- 3 triangular shapes emanating from a circle — indicates a Radiation Hazard
