Above is a drawing illustrating the installation of a trench pack. The trench is the drawing is explained as a width that varies 12"-24". The depth of the trench is dug to dry-season water level. The trench is describes as a "machine or hand-dug hole". Cutting laid vertically inside the trench are explained as "locally collected cuttings, multi-species/diversity, min. 2 nodes above surface; linear treatment with stems 1" apart". The cuttings are buried and the trench is filled with tampered native soil backfill. A water-retention berm is built at the ledge of the trench at a height varying with function. The drawing notes: "useful at OHW, or bankfull, and on floodplains installed perpendicular to flood flow. High density stems 12" above surface".
