Drawing of geotextile placement.

Drawing that shows the cross section of a trail entitled 'Geotextile Placement'. This gives an illustration for how to build a trail using geotextile to separate the ground from the mineral soil used for the trail. The following are labels and descriptions for each:

  • There are two side ditches, each on one side of the trail, that are labeled 'Side ditch'. Each is labeled with a slope of 1:1 and is 300 mm (12 in) deep.

  • A layer of 'Geotextile' is labeled with an arrow showing its location. The 'Mineral soil' above it and the 'Underlying boggy soil' below it are also labeled.

  • The mineral soil has a width between the two log retainers labeled as '1 m (3 ft)', and arrows are used to show this area. The mineral soil also has a crown above the log retainers which is labeled 'Minimum crown 50 mm (2 in)' and is shown with arrows.

  • There are wooden stakes on the outsides of both log retainers which are labeled with an arrow and the text 'Wooden stakes'.
