This section provides information about forest planning, current projects, and resource management.
Planning -- The Forest and Rangeland Renewable Resources Planning Act (RPA) as amended by the National Forest Management Act (NFMA) establishes a process for developing, amending and revising land management plans for National Forests. See the following section for information about the Tahoe National Forest Land and Resource Management Plan and other planning processes.
Projects -- Before projects can be implemented on the National Forest, environmental effects must be analyzed and disclosed to the public. Scoping, an early and open process to involve other agencies and the public in identifying significant issues associated with a proposal, is an integral part of the environmental analysis. The following section includes a Schedule of Proposed Actions (SOPA) that provides the status of various project environmental analyses in the Tahoe National Forest.
Resource Management -- The Forest Service manages National Forest System lands to provide goods and services while protecting ecosystems of the forest. The following section highlights some of the important resources of the Tahoe National Forest and how they are being managed.
Appeals & Litigation -- Forest Service managers make many resource-management decisions, which may be subject to appeal (request to a higher-level authority for administrative review of a desicion).
Click here to view appeal responses issued after Oct. 1 2006.
Pre-decisional Objections -- Hazardous fuel reduction projects proposed under the Healthy Forests Restoration Act are subject to a "pre-decisional" review referred to as the objection process. Individuals and organizations who have submitted specific written comments may file an objection on the project for consideration prior to the final decision being made.
