We update the conditions report weekly (approximately).

  • If you don't see an update for a particular week, it probably means that conditions haven't changed significantly.

General Updates and Conditions

Our office hours are 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday throught Friday. 

Local weather  for McKenzie River Travel Corridor near the Ranger Station.

Highway 242 ( Old McKenzie Hwy)  is now open from  the west side to the second snow gate at Alder Springs campground.  Posted April 18, 2014

 

Winter Recreation

Sno-Park Conditions: Snow is melting fast in area sno-parks.  We have lost about 15 inches of snow and Spring conditions are setting in!  Posted: April 18, 2014

 

Road Conditions

Watch for hazards, construction and closures on these Forest Service roads. Construction completion dates are approximate.

  • Highway 242 ( Old McKenzie Highway ) is now open 11 miles up to the second snow gate at Alder Springs campground.  Posted April 18, 2014
  • Road work through the end of April on Foley and Horse Creek Roads; Forest Road 19 ( Aufderheide Drive). Posted April 18, 2014
  • Forest Road 19 ( Aufderhiede Drive): Road 19 is completely passable.  Watch for debris and use of high clearance vehicles is advised. Posted April 18, 2014
  • Forest Road 1993 mile post 3.8: A rock slide has closed the road to vehicle traffic. Posted April 18, 2014
  • Logging Operation traffic:  Deer Creek Road ( Forest RD 2654).  Posted April 18, 2014

Campgrounds & Day Use Sites

Cougar Crossing is open year round.

  • Terwilliger Hot Springs:  Fees at Terwilliger Hot Springs are $6 per person for a day pass (can pay onsite) and  $60  for an annual pass. Fee area includes hot springs, trail, lagoon, and parking.
  • List of all campgrounds and day use sites in the McKenzie Santiam Travel Corridor with scheduled open/close dates, fees and key amenities.

Campground and cabin reservations can be made through the National Recreation Reservation Service, by calling the toll-free number: 1-877-444-6777 or online to www.recreation.gov.

 

Trails

Trail conditions change more in spring and fall following changing snow levels.We clear the low elevation, popular trails first.

  • McKenzie River Trail is now clear of debris and blow down between the ranger station and Trail Bridge campground. The trail is reported as being a bit muddy in places.  Posted April 18, 2014
  • Delta Nature Trail is open and clear.  Posted April 18,2014
  • King Castle trail is clear and snow free.  Posted April 18, 2014
  • Rainbow Falls trail is open and clear.   Posted April 18, 2014
  • Castle Rock trail is open, but winter debris has not been removed.  Posted April 18, 2014

Pass Information

In addition to Forest Service offices, the Northwest Forest Pass ( $5.00 daily and $30.00 annually) can be purchased at all area Bi-Mart Stores and REI Sporting Goods stores. The NW Forest Pass may also be purchased through local vendors: Mather's Market in Cedar Flat near Springfield; Leaburg Country Store; Meyer's General Store in Blue River and at Blue Sky Market ( formerly Harbick's Country Store) in Rainbow.
