We update the conditions report weekly (approximately).

General Updates and Conditions

Our office hours are 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

A river hazard has been reported on the McKenzie River .25 miles below Paradise Boat Launch.  Watch for logs piled up on an old bridge pylon in the middle of the river.  High water hides the obstruction.  The far left channel was open as of 5/19/2014 at 2:00 p.m.  Posted September 15, 2014

The top pool at Terwilliger Hot Springs is under closure order for repair due to hazardous slumping.   Posted September 15, 2014.

Road Conditions

Watch for hazards, construction and closures on these Forest Service roads. Construction completion dates are approximate.

  • The primary access road into Trail Bridge campground will be closed for transformer repair starting September 14, 2014.
  • Highway 242 ( Old McKenzie Highway ) is open to vehicle traffic.  Posted September 15, 2014
  • Forest Road 19 ( Aufderhiede Drive): Road 19 is open to Westfir.  Posted September 15, 2014
  • Forest Road 19/387 and Forest Road 19/408: Culvert work will begin Tuesday, September 2.  Expect closures and delays.  Posted September 15, 2014
  • Forest Road 1993 mile post 3.8: A rock slide has closed the road to vehicle traffic. Posted September 15, 2014
  • Forest Road 15/ in Blue River Reservoir area: Road work will begin the week of September 15, 2014.  One lane closure at times with flaggers and minor delays.  Posted September 15, 2014
  • Forest Road 2618 will be closed to vehicle traffice from Wednesday, September 17,2014 - October 31, 2014.  Posted September 15, 2014
  • Forest Road 2654 ( Deer Creek Road) is passable, but washed out in places, especially in higher elevations and the road into Wolf Rock. A four-wheel drive may be required to access some areas.  Posted September 15, 2014

Campgrounds & Day Use Sites

Campgrounds closures September, 2014:

Reservations are being accepted for the 2014 camping season at recreation.gov  

  • Terwilliger Hot Springs:  Fees at Terwilliger Hot Springs are $6 per person for a day pass (can pay onsite) and  $60  for an annual pass. Fee area includes hot springs, trail, lagoon, and parking.
  • List of all campgrounds and day use sites in the McKenzie Santiam Travel Corridor with scheduled open/close dates, fees and key amenities.

Campground and cabin reservations can be made through the National Recreation Reservation Service, by calling the toll-free number: 1-877-444-6777 or online to www.recreation.gov.

 

Trails

Trail conditions change more in spring and fall following changing snow levels.We clear the low elevation, popular trails first.

The Obsidian Trail, Obsidian Loop, Glacier Way are now logged out .   Snow level is approximately 6500 feet.  Posted September 15, 2014

Obsidian Limited Entry Area Permits:  Advance reservations are now available only through the National Recreation Reservation System (NRRS) at www.recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777. Visit  our Obsidian Limited Entry Permit Page for more information.

Pass Information

In addition to Forest Service offices, the Northwest Forest Pass ( $5.00 daily and $30.00 annually) can be purchased at all area Bi-Mart Stores and REI Sporting Goods stores. The NW Forest Pass may also be purchased through local vendors: Mather's Market in Cedar Flat near Springfield; Leaburg Country Store; Meyer's General Store in Blue River; Blue Sky Market ( formerly Harbick's Country Store) in Rainbow and McKenzie Bridge General Store in McKenzie Bridge.

The new E-Pass ( NW Forest Pass for day use ) is available online at  www.discovernw.org  Print it at home or on the road!
