Portage Valley Learning Center

Bringing the outdoors to the classroom!
The Portage Valley Learning Center (PVLC) opened to the public in 2005. This multi-purpose classroom addition to the visitor center will be used primarily for educational programs by the conservation education staff, but the space will also provide opportunities for special events and other uses.
The addition of the classroom is not only an expansion of the building, but an expansion of possibility. The addition of the PVLC has allowed the education staff to revamp the conservation education program to include a visit to Portage Valley and the Chugach National Forest. From this idea, the Forest Ranger Academy was born.
Connecting to Nature through Experience
Having a classroom in the natural setting of the Chugach allows for a true conservation education opportunity. Students have the ability to learn about the forest in the PVLC, as well as travel outdoors to experience the forest first hand!
Enjoy Your Forest!
Portage Valley and the Begich, Boggs Visitor Center offer a unique opportunity to learn about the Chugach National Forest. Winter and summer conservation education programs are happening at the Portage Valley Learning Center.
