Permits

Do you need a Chugach National Forest Permit? Maybe...

The Alaska Region is home to the Chugach and Tongass National Forests and contains some of the most expansive Wilderness in the country, offering a variety of unique opportunities. To manage resources properly, the Forest Service has three specialized types of permits: Recreation, Special Use, and Forest Product. Before you plan an activity on the Forest, please be sure to check whether or not you need a permit or pass. Common activities that will need these include wood cutting, commercial mushroom picking, and cutting Christmas trees.
