- for some group gatherings or events
- for commercial road use
Recreation Passes and Permits
Overnight and Recreation Area Passes
Most national forests and grasslands are open, free of charge, for your use and enjoyment. Fees may be charged and permits required for some activities and locations, such as popular sites in the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness and Vail Pass Winter Recreation Area.
Forest Product Permits
Firewood Permits

You may purchase permits to harvest up to 10 cords of firewood for personal use.
Check in with the Ranger District that manages the area where you plan to cut, and make sure to pick up a free Motor Vehicle Use Map. These maps show dates roads and trails are open to motorized travel and specifications for vehicle use.
Christmas Tree Permits

Christmas tree permits are available seasonally beginning in mid-November. 4th graders are eligible to receive a free Christmas tree permit!
Other Forest Products

Personal use permits for mushrooms, transplants and decorative wood are available at Ranger District Offices. Contact your local office for site-specific harvest regulations.
