Temporary closure needed to complete Crow Creek Road improvements

Release Date: May 28th, 2025

TOWNSEND, Mont. – May 28, 2025—Work will begin on June 2 to improve the condition of Crow Creek Road increasing ease of access to the Elkhorn Mountains. With the presence and activity of heavy machinery, the project will require a temporary road closure through the end of September to ensure safety for the public and workers.

The temporary closure will impact 19 miles of Crow Creek Road (Forest Service Road #424). During this time, Crow Creek Falls Trailhead will be inaccessible by vehicle. Additionally, any dispersed camping accessed from Crow Creek Road will need to be vacated prior to June 2. Visitors staying at the Eagle Creek Guard Station should plan to access it via Indian Creek Road.

Please visit: https://www.fs.usda.gov/r01/helena-lewisclark/alerts to view all closures across the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest. Please call the Townsend Ranger District at 406-266-3425 if you have questions about this road work.
