Closures on the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest:
Helena Ranger District:
- South Hills camping closure (01-15-12-24-41): All National Forest System lands adjacent to the City of Helena's natural parks around the South Hills trail system on the Helena Ranger District (Grizzly Gulch, Orofino Gulch, Davis Gulch, Park City, Tucker Gulch, Wakina Sky, Rodney Ridge, and Unionville). This closure goes through December 2025. View the closure order and map.
Townsend Ranger District:
- There are no closures in effect.
Belt Creek-White Sulphur Springs Ranger District:
- Lick Creek Cave closure (01-15-07-23-13): The Cave northwest of Monarch is closed due to the detection of white-nose syndrome spores. The cave will be closed to the general public until further notice. (n.b. this order is no longer in effect, but the cave remains closed unless you have a permit. Please contact the Belt Creek-White Sulphur Springs Ranger Districts for questions.)
Lincoln Ranger District:
- There are no closures in effect.
Judith-Musselshell Ranger District:
- There are no closures in effect.
Rocky Mountain Ranger District:
Forest Service Road 8998 closure (01-15-01-23-13): Forest Service Road #8998 is closed to motor vehicles in its entirety, beginning from the junction of Forest Service Road #144 and Forest Service Road #8998 and through its junction with Trail #195. View the closure order and map.

Food storage order in effect
Please be aware that food storage orders are in effect on the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest. This helps ensure bears do not get habituated to human food and helps to keep people and bears safe.
