  1. Plan ahead and prepare: Know the regulations and special concerns of the area you will visit.
  2. Travel and camp on durable surfaces: Stick to established trails and campsites.
  3. Dispose of waste properly: Pack out what you pack in.
  4. Leave what you find: Preserve the past; examine but do not touch cultural or historic structures and artifacts.
  5. Minimize campfire impact: Use a lightweight stove for cooking and enjoy a candle lantern for light.
  6. Respect wildlife: Observe wildlife from a distance and never feed them.
  7. Be considerate of other visitors: Respect other visitors and protect the quality of their experience.

Be aware of variable road conditions on the Forest and pack a map and plenty of extra food, water, and layers in case you run into inclement weather or get turned around while out on the Forest.

The forest has many abandoned mines, mine shafts, and tailings leftover from former mining activity. Please take precautions to minimize risk to you and your family when out enjoying the forest.
