Smith Lake Trailhead

This Trailhead serves as the access point for Smith Lake Trail No. 1194. No camping is permitted within ¼ mile of Smith Lake. This is a day use area only.

This 0.75 mile trail is good for all ages and hiking levels. Smith Lake offers excellent fishing opportunities and great views of the surrounding Flat Tops. The lake is best accessed along the SE shoreline after crossing Smith Creek. This crossing may be 

Smith Lake is located in the Flat Tops Wilderness, please follow Wilderness Regulations.

Camping can be easily found nearby at Cold Springs Campground or at one of the Bear River Developed Campsites

Getting There

Directions

From Yampa, follow County Road 7 southwest for 6.5 miles following signs to Yamcolo and Stillwater Reservoir. The road will turn into gravel at 6.5 miles where it becomes Forest Service Road 900. Continue another 7.9 miles on FS Road 900 past the Bear Lake and Horsetooth Campground. The trailhead will be on your right.
