Green Creek Trailhead

The Green Creek Trailhead is located along Green Creek Road, south of Bridgeport, California. This trailhead provides access to the Hoover Wilderness and is a popular starting point for both day hikers and backpackers looking to explore the alpine lakes and trails in the wilderness. This location also provides access great access to the Yosemite Wilderness in Yosemite National Park. 

General Information

  • Trailhead is located near the Green Creek Campground.

Late-May to early-October depending upon weather and conditions.

Open 24 hours/day

  • Overnight use within the Hoover Wilderness requires a wilderness permit year-round. Please see Recreation.gov for information on obtaining a permit and associated fees.
  • A free California Camp Fire Permit issued by CalFire is required for campfire, barbecue, and portable stove use.

Directions

1. From Bridgeport, drive approximately four miles south on Highway 395 to Green Creek Road (Forest Service Road #142).

2. Turn right and travel another 11 miles on the dirt road until road ends at the trailhead.
