Mountain City-Ruby Mountains-Jarbidge Ranger District
The Mountain City-Ruby Mountains-Jarbidge Ranger District more than 1.1 million acres in Elko and White Pine counties, with offices in Wells and Elko. This huge expanse of wild and rugged land is rich in Native American, mining, and ranching history.
There are a wide variety of diverse landscapes including the Jarbidge, East Humboldt and Ruby Mountain Ranges. The terrain includes rocky peaks, cirque basins, glacier-formed lakes, narrow canyons, and rolling sage and grass hills. The elevation ranges from about 6,000 feet on the valley floor to 11,387 feet on the summit of Ruby Dome in the Ruby Mountains. Vegetation includes sagebrush, aspen, mountain mahogany, and high altitude conifers.
Complexes
Lamoille Canyon lies in the heart of the Ruby Mountains. This spectacular canyon winds around the base of the 11,387-foot Ruby Dome, and climbs through the glacier-carved canyon to 8,800 feet at Roads End Trailhead. Opportunities for hiking, backpacking, fishing, camping, and winter sports abound in the area. The Ruby Mountains Wilderness can also be access from multiple points in Lamoille Canyon and the spectacular 38 miles Ruby Crest National Recreation Trail starts at the Road's End Trailhead.
Thomas Canyon Campground is a very popular site located in the scenic Lamoille Canyon, in northeast Nevada, 30 miles from Elko.
Located at the base of Lamoille Canyon in the Ruby Mountains, Powerhouse Group Picnic Area is a large group site with a covered awning makes for a fabulous setting.
Located at the base of Lamoille Canyon in the Ruby Mountains, Powerhouse Picnic Area has multiple picnic sites tucked in next to Lamoille Creek.
Terraces Overnight Group Area is a popular location for weddings, church activities, family reunions and company picnics.
Road's End Trailhead has access to many beautiful high elevation lakes, gorgeous views and miles of trails.
