Wolf Creek Trailhead/Dispersed Campground

The Wolf Creek Trailhead and Dispersed Campground is located at the end of Wolf Creek Road south of Markleeville, California. This site serves as an access point to the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness and the Wolf Creek Trail. The Wolf Creek Trail is 8.5 miles long and connects with the Pacific Crest Trail.

This trailhead also serves as a dispersed campground, with dispersed campsites and minimal developed facilities. 

General Information

Generally open May to October as weather and conditions allow.

Open 24 hours/day

  • A wilderness permit is required for overnight visits within the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness. Wilderness permits are free and are self-issued at trailheads.
  • A free California Camp Fire Permit issued by CalFire is required for campfire, barbecue, and portable stove use. 

No fees are required for this site

From Markleeville, travel southeast on CA-89/CA-4 for 7.3 miles, then left onto Wolf Creek Rd for5.1 miles to the TH.
