South Mountain Trail

Located on the Moab Ranger District, the South Mountain Trail is 8.9 miles long. It begins at Forest Road #0073 near Beaver/Medicine Lake and ends further west on Forest Road #0073. The trail is open for the following uses: Hiking and Horseback Riding. Mountain Biking is only allowed on a small section of the trail by Medicine Lake. Above the junction with the Medicine Lake trail, bikes are not allowed.

General Information

The trail is open Hiking and Horseback Riding. Mountain Biking is only allowed on a small section of the trail by Medicine Lake. Above the junction with the Medicine Lake trail, bikes are not allowed.

Getting There

Directions

Easiest route: From Moab, head south on US191 and travel 22 miles. Turn left at the Hwy 46 junction toward the town of La Sal. Drive another 13 miles and take a left on to the Upper Two Mile graveled dirt road. After 2 miles make a left turn for the La Sal Pass Road. Continue up the road until you see the sign for the South Mountain trailhead. It will be on the left side of the road and it is marked with a sign.

There is one stream crossing that at low flows is suitable for most higher clearance two-wheel-drive vehicles. This road may be impassable in certain seasons or weather conditons.
