    For public safety while construction crews are installing snow making equipment the following trails are closed

    • Alta-Brighton Trail between Summit Road and Mount Evergreen Ridge area and Millicent Chalet at Brighton Resort.
    • Brighton Lakes Trail between the junction at Twin Lakes and 100 yards down the trail.
    • Twin Lakes Trails between Alta-Brighton Trail and Lake Solitude Trail.
    • Lake Solitude Trail between Silver Lake Nature Trail and Lake Solitude.
    • Silver Lake Nature Trail between north and south fishing pier

Salt Lake Ranger District Temporary Trail Closures

PROHIBITIONS

Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.50 (b), the following acts are prohibited on the National Forest System Trails in the Salt Lake Ranger District, Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forests, described below and shown on the attached map incorporated into this Order as Exhibit A. This Order will be in effect when the trails are posted with signs as closed between July 14, 2025, and shall remain in effect until October 30, 2025, unless rescinded.

  1. Being in or upon the Alta-Brighton Trail (Forest Service Trail #1007), Brighton Lakes Trail (Forest Service Trail #1164), Twin Lakes Trail (Forest Service Trail #1163), Lake Solitude Trail (Forest Service Trail #1171), and Silver Lake Nature Trail (Forest Service Trail #1162) this includes all pedestrians, hikers, equestrians, bicycles and any type of motorized vehicle as described below and shown on attached map. [36 CFR 261.53(e)]

EXEMPTIONS

Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:

  1. Persons with Forest Service Permit specifically exempting them from this Order or a written determination by a Forest Service authorized officer that a permit is not required under 36 C.F.R. § 251.50(e)(1) or (2).
  2. Any federal, state, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or firefighting resource in the performance of an official duty.
  3. Federal or state administrative personnel in performance of an official duty.

DESCRIBED

Alta-Brighton Trail (Forest Service Trail #1007) closed between the Summit Road and Mount Evergreen Ridge area and the Millicent Chalet at Brighton Resort, for 1.21 miles all located in Township 2 South, Range 3 East, Sections 34 and 35 within the Salt Lake Based Meridian as shown on the attached map.

Brighton Lakes Trail (Forest Service Trail #1164) closed between the junction 
to Twin Lakes and 100 yards down the trail for 0.06 miles all located in Township 2 South, Range 3 East, Section 34 within the Salt Lake Based Meridian as shown on the attached map.

Twin Lakes Trail (Forest Service Trail #1163) the whole trail is closed, which runs between the Alta- Brighton Trail (#1107) and the Lake Solitude Trail (#1171) for 0.71 miles all located in Township 2 South, Range 3 East, Section 34 within the Salt Lake Based Meridian as shown on the attached map. 
 

Lake Solitude Trail (Forest Service Trail #1171) the whole trail is closed between the Silver Lake Nature Trail (#1162) and Lake Solitude for 1.08 miles all located in Township 2 South, Range 3 East, Sections 27, 34 and 35 within the Salt Lake Based Meridian as shown on attached map.

Silver Lake Nature Trail (Forest Service Trail #1162) closed between the north and south fishing piers for 0.37 miles located in Township 2 South, Range 3 East, Sections 34 and 35 within the Salt Lake Based Meridian as shown on attached map.

PURPOSE

The purpose of the temporary closures is to provide for public safety while construction crews use heavy equipment, blasting, trenching, pipe placement and welding to bury snow making pipes underground.

IMPLEMENTATION

  1. This Order will be in effect when the trail is posted with signs as closed between July 14, 2025, and shall remain in effect until October 30, 2025, unless rescinded.
  2. A map identifying the trails is attached and made part of this Order as Exhibit A. For a digital version of this Order and Exhibit A, go to Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest - Alerts & Notices (usda.gov) .
  3. Unless otherwise expressly defined in this Order, the terms used in this Order are defined by the regulations of the Secretary of Agriculture, 36 C.F.R. Chapter II, Parts 200-299. If there are terms in this Order that are not expressly defined in the Order or 36 C.F.R. Chapter II, Parts 200-299, their meaning shall be determined by their plain language definitions.
  4. A violation of the above prohibitions is punishable as a Class B misdemeanor by a fine of not more than

    $5,000 for individuals and $10,000 for organizations, or by imprisonment for not more than six months, or both. 16 U.S.C. § 551; 18 U.S.C. §§ 3559, 3571, and 3581.

  6. This Order supersedes any previous Orders prohibiting the same or similar acts in/upon the Alta-Brighton Trail (Forest Service Trail #1007), Brighton Lakes Trail (Forest Service Trail #1164), Twin Lakes Trail (Forest Service Trail #1163), Lake Solitude Trail (Forest Service Trail #1171), and Silver Lake Nature Trail (Forest Service Trail #1162).
