Buck Rock Lookout

Buck Rock Lookout, in the Sequoia National Forest, sits atop a granite dome with a breathtaking view of the Great Western Divide and surrounding high peaks of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Access to the top comes with 172 steps suspended from the side of the rock, up to a lookout constructed in 1923. The building represents one of only three left in the world of the earliest 4-A style live-in cabins.

As for its name, Native Americans referred to the natural wonder as “Finger Rock” and noticed that, from a certain angle, you can see the profile of a male “buck” warrior.
