Mount Shasta Plantation Area Camping and Fire Restrictions
Portions of the Mount Shasta Wilderness are restricted from camping and having a campfire due to public safety on the Mount Shasta Ranger District.
Safety concerns include concerns of sanitation issues impacting private water wells; campfires and wood gathering adjacent to private homes and subdivisions; damage of local vegetation due to high-use; and the introduction of noxious weeds and non-native plant materials.
Exempt are persons with Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 specially exempting from this order.

MT. SHASTA PLANTATION AREA CAMPING AND FIRE RESTRICTIONS
Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(a) and to provide for public safety, the following acts are prohibited within the Shasta-McCloud Management Unit of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. This Order is effective from May 7, 2025, through May 7, 2026.
- Camping within the Mount Shasta Plantation Closure Area described in Exhibit A and shown on Exhibit B, except within a developed recreation site.
36 C.F.R. § 261.58(e). - Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire, campfire, or fire stove in the Mount Shasta Plantation Closure Area described in Exhibit A and shown on Exhibit B, except in a developed recreation site. 36 C.F.R. § 261.52(a).
Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:
- Persons with Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order), specifically exempting them from this Order.
- Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire- fighting force in the performance of an official duty.
These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions found in 36 C.F.R. Part 261, Subpart A and all other orders issued pursuant to 36 C.F.R. Part 261, Subpart B.
A violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both. 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 18 U.S.C. §§ 3559, 3571, and 3581.

- The Mount Shasta Plantation Closure Area encompasses all National Forest System lands within the boundary that begins at the northeast corner of Section 26, Township 41 N, Range 4 W, Mount Diablo Base and Meridian (MDBM),
- then continues south along the eastern edge of the section line to its intersection with the northern edge of Section 1, Township 40 N, Range 4 W, MDBM,
- then continues west along the northern edge of the section line to its intersection with the eastern edge of Section 2, Township 40 N, Range 4 W, MDBM,
- then continues south along the eastern edge of the section line to its intersection with the northern edge of Section 12, Township 40 N, Range 4 W, MDBM,
- then continues east along the section line to its intersection with the east edge of Section 12, Township 40 N, Range 3 W, MDBM,
- then continues south along the eastern edge of the section line to its intersection with the northern edge of Section 18, Township 40 N, Range 3 W, MDBM,
- then continues east along the section line to its intersection with the eastern edge of Section 18, Township 40 N, Range 3 W, MDBM,
- then continues south along the section line to its intersection with the south edge of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest Boundary, Section 18, Township 40 N, Range 3 W, MDBM,
- then continues west along the Shasta-Trinity National Forest Boundary to its intersection with the eastern boundary of Section 25, Township 40 N, Range 3 W, MDBM,
- then continues south along the section line to its intersection with the southern edge of Section 25, Township 40 N, Range 3 W, MDBM,
- then continues west along the Shasta-Trinity National Forest Boundary to its intersection with Forest Road 41N18, Section 28, Township 41 N, Range 4 W, MDBM,
- then continues east along Shasta-Trinity National Forest land ownership to its intersection with the northern edge of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest Boundary, Section 28, Township 41 N, Range 4 W, MDBM,
- then continues east along the northern edge of the section line back to the starting point, as shown on Exhibit B.
