Monday, most areas of the fire experienced moderate growth around the perimeter, with the majority of growth occurring in the Flat Creek area on the north and east sides of the fire and the Gray Rocks area on the southern side. On the east side of the fire, crews prepared the Fender’s Ferry Road to work on the ridgeline between Fender’s Ferry and Ripgut Creek, where a helispot was established. Structure assessments continued along the Fender’s Ferry Road corridor. On the west side of the fire, work began on the 02 road near Low Pass and mixed hand and dozer line began on the north end of Winnibull Mountain Ridge.

Since the Green Fire began, firefighters have been working around the clock under a full suppression strategy, using every available resource on the ground and in the air to contain the fire. So far, fixed-wing aircraft have completed 112 retardant drops, each ranging from 1,000 to 3,000 gallons, while helicopters have made more than 200 water bucket drops directly on hot spots. Firefighters are operating in some of the most challenging and difficult terrains in northern California, where access is only possible by boat across Shasta Lake, then by hiking in for over two hours. Crews are also contending with extreme heat, steep slopes, and rugged conditions. Despite these challenges, their dedication remains unwavering, with firefighter safety as our highest priority.

Today, Fire boats will be arriving on the south side of the fire in the Pit River arm of Shasta Lake to ferry crews and spray water if necessary. Helicopters will support work with bucket drops on the north end of the fire in the Low Pass area. On the east side of the fire, crews will begin to establish hand and dozer line.

Weather: Max temperatures 89 to 93 degrees and 20-24% relative humidity. Afternoon winds will be from the south at 12-17 mph, creating a potential for northern fire spread.

Aircraft assigned include three type 1 helicopters, one type 2 helicopter, and one type 3 helicopter. Two Super Scoopers, one UAS (drone) and one additional type 1 helicopter are on order. Fixed-wing aircraft will be ordered when required.
