General Information

Wilderness Self-Issue Permit required if enter Opal Creek Wilderness for both day use and overnight stays from June 15 through October 15. Free permits are self-issued at the trailhead.

Getting There

Directions

From Detroit, Oregon, travel west on Highway 22 just across the bridge over Breitenbush River to French Creek Road (Forest Road 2233) turn right and travel for about 2 miles to Forest Road 2225. Turn right and travel for about 6 miles to Forest Road 458. Turn right and travel for about 2 miles. Trailhead is on left.
