Crabtree Falls Day Use Area

This moderate 2.7 mile trail wanders through the mountainside offering scenic views of 5 major cascades falling a total distance of 1,200 feet. Overlooks allow hikers to enjoy the beauty of the valley. The first waterfall overlook is universally accessible, and is only a short distance along a paved trail.

The America the Beautiful Interagency Pass series and the George Washington & Jefferson National Forests Seasonal Day Use Pass are accepted here. The Virginia State Parks pass does not apply on the National Forest. 

DANGER: Leaving the trail has resulted in numerous fatalities due to extraordinarily slippery conditions created by clear algae on rocks. Hikers must remain on trail; pets must be leashed at all times. Alcoholic beverages prohibited. No horses or bicycles allowed. 

Day Use: $3/Vehicle/Day.
Please be prepared to pay with CASH or CHECK.

$3 per vehicle per day. 

Please, keep your pet on a leash when in a recreation area or campground. The law requires dog owners to keep their dog on a leash with a length no greater than 6 feet and under physical control when within a recreational area, such as a campground or day use area (36 CFR 2616(j)).

Directions

From I-81: Take exit 205 for Raphine/Steeles Tavern and continue east on State Route (SR) 606 to US 11. Turn left onto US 11 and continue north for a very short distance, then take a right onto SR 56. Follow SR 56 for 2 miles into the community of Vesuvius. As you enter Vesuvius, continue on the road as it bears to the left for another 6 miles. At the top of the mountain, continue under the Blue Ridge Parkway on SR 56 for 6 to 8 miles. The entrance to Crabtree Falls Day Use Area is on the right.
