Tomahawk Pond Day Use Area

Come spend the entire day at Tomahawk Pond! For a fun and relaxing angling experience, utilize one of the accessible platforms or treasure a simple picnic with family or friends. Birdwatchers should be on the lookout for the allusive Peregrine Falcon diving for prey.

Alcoholic beverages prohibited. No gas-powered motors. When recreating on Forest Service Lands, follow the safety and outdoor ethics recommendations.

Please, keep your pet on a leash when in a recreation area or campground. The law requires dog owners to keep their dog on a leash with a length no greater than 6 feet and under physical control when within a recreational area, such as a campground or day use area (36 CFR 2616(j)).

Directions

From I-81: Take exit 257 and follow VA 259 west to Broadway. At traffic light, turn left to remain on Va 259 and go straight through next traffic light toward Brocks Gap, still Va 259. In 4.5 miles, turn right onto SR 612, Runions Creek Rd. Drive 13.5 miles (SR 612 becomes SR 610, but its name remains Runions Creek Rd.) to either of two entrances to Tomahawk Pond Recreation Area on the right. The first entrance is to the picnic ground. A second entrance, with another parking area for easy access to the pond, is 0.1 miles farther.
