10-04-30-25-11 Palmer Creek Road and Coeur d'Alene Campground Closure

To protect the health and safety of forest-users and construction workers, the Palmer Creek Road, including the Coeur d’Alene Campground, will be closed to all public use starting May 1, 2025 until Sep. 30, 2025. 

The Palmer Creek Road will be undergoing major construction this coming spring and summer. Construction crews from MBGC, LLC will be removing the existing culverts by the Coeur d’ Alene Campground and replacing them with an Aquatic Organism Pass (AOP). The failing bridge at milepost 9.02 will also be removed and replaced with a concrete bridge. During active construction heavy equipment will be used at the project sites and the road will be impassable and unsafe for forest users. Given the substantial nature of the work being performed, and the fact that operating heavy equipment near recreational users poses an obvious safety risk, it is necessary to close the Palmer Creek Road to the public while the construction project is ongoing. Any public access to this area while the project is underway poses a clear, immediate, and continuous risk to the health and safety of both forest users and construction workers. 

Because Palmer Creek Road provides the only convenient and reasonable access to the Coeur d’Alene Campground, the road closure makes it necessary to close the campground too. Moreover, the work on the road also means that the agency will not be maintaining the campground this summer (such as by removing trash or maintaining the toilet facilities).
