As a visitor to the National Forest, you are asked to follow certain rules designed to protect the Forest, natural resources and to provide for public safety of visitors.

These rules are available to you on-line below or at any office of the Green Mountain and Finger Lakes National Forests. Please take time to read and understand them. If you have additional questions please call your local Forest Service office for clarification.

Dutch Hill Integrated Resource Project

The Green Mountain National Forest manages timber, wildlife habitat, recreation trails, and other resources on more than 400,000 acres in Vermont. This site is part of the South of Route 9 Project, which includes lands spanning across Southern Vermont on the Manchester Ranger District (MRD). The Dutch Hill Integrated Resource Stewardship Contract (IRSC) area includes 1,033 acres, on which treatment is confined to 289.3 acres on National Forest Lands within the Town of Readsboro, Vermont.

Outside of seasonal closures, some National Forest roads/parking lots may be closed due to construction, extreme weather, or other events making a road impassable or unsafe. Please consult the following list for possible closures and remember to call local Ranger Stations for the most up-to-date closures when planning your forest trips.


Public Notices

Closure Order R9-20-24-03 - Dutch Hill Ski Area

The purpose of this Order is to protect the public health and safety of users of National Forest System (NFS) lands by closing the Dutch Hill Ski Area until the Dutch Hill Integrated Resource Service Contract is completed in Tracts 215, 269, 459O, and 459P on the Green Mountain National Forest (GMNF). Recreational activities in these areas are unsafe due to the presence of logging equipment and operations.
