As a visitor to the National Forest, you are asked to follow certain rules designed to protect the Forest, natural resources and to provide for public safety of visitors.
These rules are available to you online below or at any office of the Green Mountain and Finger Lakes National Forests. Please take time to read and understand them. If you have additional questions please call your local Forest Service office for clarification.

Heavily damaged or closed trails
The following trails are heavily damaged or closed:

Grout Pond Recreation Area
Grout Pond Recreation Area is open for reservations through mid-October. Trail improvement work on the Camp Loop trail is expected to begin in mid-May and go through June.

Moosalamoo Campground Water System
The Moosalamoo Campground water system hand pump is currently non-operational and is expected to remain non-operational for the summer. Visitors will need to bring their own potable water.

Glastenbury fire tower is closed to public use
Glastenbury fire tower is closed to public use as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has recently deemed the tower structurally unsafe.

Hapgood Pond Recreation Area
Hapgood Pond Recreation Area is currently undergoing some renovations including fishing pier construction, repair to the bath house facility, underground water line repair and repair on the historic pavilions.

Special Orders and Closures - Green Mountain National Forest
The Forest Supervisor may issue Special Orders and Closures that will close or restrict the use of certain areas if the need arises. -
