Avalanche
Maximize your safety when recreating outdoors this winter. During winter months, be aware of snow conditions, the potential for avalanche danger, and carry and know how to use proper backcountry equipment including avalanche beacon, shovel, and probe while recreating. The snowpack as a whole may change not only during the course of the winter season, but throughout the course of a single day, due to changing weather and temperature conditions.

Fire Information
During the fire season conditions in the forest can change quickly. Stay informed on the latest wildfire locations and closures before you leave for the woods!
- National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) posts a new Situation Report every day. This is a national report that summarizes information on current large fires, gives an outlook for the day, provides the total number of fires and acreage burned, as well as the current number of committed resources.
- InciWeb has a map of current larger incidents with contact information.
Kootenai Fire Information
