Grant Opportunities
Every year, a handful of grant opportunities are available for land managers through the RTP, Kodak, North Face, National Forest Foundation, American Hiking Society and more. The Florida National Scenic Trail has successfully funded projects with both the American Hiking Society and the Recreational Trails Program grant opportunities. Land managers and partners with project ideas are encouraged to apply!

Florida Trail Boardwalk Replacement - St. Marks NWR, 2012 - National Trails Fund
The National Trails Fund by the American Hiking Society is a grant opportunity for hiking trail improvements to active members of their Hiking Alliance. Grants range from $500 to $5000 and fund projects that aim to improve access and safety on trails. The Florida Trail Association received a grant from the National Trails Fund in 2012 to replace 350 feet of hazardous boardwalk in the Spring Creek area of St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge. In addition to improving user safety, this boardwalk helps to mitigate the impacts on tidal wetlands.
Florida Trail Bridge Project - Bay County, 2007 - Recreational Trails Program
The Recreational Trails Program is a federally funded grant that provides financial assitance to city, county, state or federal governments, organizations, or Indian tribal governments to develop recreational trails, trailheads and trailside facilities. In 2007, the RTP grant awarded $80,000 to the Florida Trail Association (matching $53,000) in order to complete a suspension bridge over Econfina Creek, connecting two segments of trail. This project utilized partnerships with the Student Conservation Association, the Northwest Florida Water Management District, and local youth groups and students from the FSU-FAMU engineering school.
