Waterline Break at Lake Vesuvius Recreation Area
Release Date: May 19, 2011
Ironton, OH-Torrential rains and severe storms caused a break in the main waterline to Lake Vesuvius Recreation Area within the Wayne National Forest in southeastern Ohio.
Currently, Oak Hill and Iron Ridge Campgrounds have no water service. This means there is no drinking water, no flush toilets, no showers, and no RV water hook-ups at the newly renovated Oak Hill Campground.
At Iron Ridge campground there is no water for drinking or washing. If you visit these campgrounds, please bring all the water you plan to use. Both campgrounds have vault toilets available.
District Ranger Tim Slone stated, “Crews are working to locate and repair the damage along a four-mile stretch of pipe. If it is located and is a minor repair, the work crew hopes to restore drinking water to both campgrounds and reopen the new bathhouses the week after Memorial Day.”
