Rail SystemsRemote Areas & Low Risk Areas (OSHA-Based)Rail systems on remote trail bridges must be at least 42 inches high for pedestrian use and 54 inches high for bicycle or equestrian use. Rails are generally horizontal with vertical openings no larger than 15 inches. A curb or curb rail no more than 4 inches above the deck surface is required for trail bridges used by horses and riders.
