| Title: |
Kane R-Series Yield Plots
|
| Objective: |
To determine natural (unmanaged) growth rates and yields. |
| Year Established: |
1932, 1936 |
| Year Completed: |
expected to continue |
| Site Description: |
Kane Experimental Forest |
| Statistical Design: |
15 1-square chain plots established 1932, and 6 1-square chain
plots established 1936. |
| Likelihood of Locating Study Areas: |
100% |
| Experimental Treatments: |
No human intervention. The insertion of a gas transmission
line destroyed plot R8A. Drought years, heavy birch mortality,
loss of growth and spotty mortality in other species: 1930 to
1936. Ice storm: 1930 and 1950. |
| Sampling Methods: |
Within each plot, each tree taller than 4.5' was numbered,
plotted on a stand map, and measured diameter to the nearest
0.1". Original study complete yet measurements continue to be
taken. Trees were renumbered in 1977. |
| Variables and Sampling Frequency: |
Tree species, d.b.h. (to the nearest 0.1"), crown class, total
height, tree condition: 1932, 1937, 1942, 1952, 1957, 1977,
1984, 1988. |
| QA/QC Practices: |
Data were field checked and data-entry into computer was 100%
cross checked with field sheets. |
| Data Storage: |
Raw data by plot reside on DG and tally sheets are kept with
written instructions and detailed maps to each stand. Annually,
the raw data are transformed using the REGEN1 program in DG
Info. System. Summarized data by plot and by stand reside in
a DG-based program that can output to ASCII text files. |
