| Title: |
Regeneration Histories of
the Allegheny Plateau
|
| Objective: |
To consolidate into one study all existing regeneration records
and to schedule periodic remeasurement of these plots to enable
researchers to refine existing guidelines. |
| Year Established: |
1982 |
| Year Completed: |
expected to continue |
| Site Description: |
Studies cover forested lands in Northwestern PA. |
| Statistical Design: |
All existing data from 19 closed studies will be preserved
in a standard computer format and some existing plots will be
remeasured at regular intervals. Analysis: regression and multiple
regression. Most data are from 6' radius plots, although a few
studies used mil-acre and are seedling counts by species and
height classes. |
| Likelihood of Locating Study Areas: |
100% |
| Experimental Treatments: |
varies among studies |
| Sampling Methods: |
varies among studies |
| Variables and Sampling Frequency: |
Independent: density, species composition, size of advance
regeneration, deer population levels, cutting treatments, herbicide
treatments, fertilizers, and numerous soil, site and stand variables.
Dependent: stocking of desirable species at various times.
Variables measured 2 ,5 ,10 , and 15 years after plot establishment. |
| QA/QC Practices: |
Computer summary programs can catch error in data entry. |
| Data Storage: |
Raw data by plot reside on DG and tally sheets are kept with
written instructions and detailed maps to each stand. Annually,
the raw data are transformed using the REGEN1 program in DG
Info. System. Summarized data by plot and by stand reside in
a DG-based program that can output to ASCII text files. |
