Examples
of post-fire damage and Rehab efforts that mitigate that damage
Buckskin Wash, in the middle of the
Heber-Overgaard, Arizona community. This “dry” wash
is seeing the first run-off from watersheds within the Rodeo-Chediski
Fire as the Southwest monsoon rains began to arrive before emergency
rehabilitation work was completed. The black gooey runoff is
covering a street and measures 50 feet wide and 6-10 feet deep.
Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, Arizona.
Rehabilitation work in an area burned
by the Rodeo-Chediski Fire. Volunteers completed the work by
spreading straw to protect grass seed aimed at reducing erosion
from the Monsoon rains. Approximately 175 volunteers covered
180 acres of seeded area with in a four-hour period. Rehabilitation
work mitigates the environmental degradation caused by heavy
rains. Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, Arizona.
