GUNNISON NATIONAL FORESTS 

GUNNISON RANGER DISTRICT 

Pursuant to 16 USC § 551 and 36 CFR § 261.50(a), the following acts are prohibited on National Forest System (NFS) lands in the Taylor River Corridor of the Gunnison Ranger Districts described below and shown on the attached maps incorporated into this Order as Exhibits A (the Lower Taylor Area) and B (the Upper Taylor Area). The Lower and Upper Taylor Areas are in the Gunnison National Forest in Gunnison County, Colorado. 

The Lower Taylor Area (Exhibit A) includes all NFS lands within 500 yards of County Road 742 for the portion of the road beginning at the Forest Boundary at Almont (Section 23, Township 15S, Range 85W, 6th P.M) and ending at River’s End Campground in Taylor Park (Section 5, Township 13S, Range 83W, 6th P.M). 

The Upper Taylor Area (Exhibit B) includes all NFS lands within 100 feet of the Taylor River and Taylor Park Reservoir’s high-water mark beginning at the Taylor Canyon Dam (Section 5, Township 13S, Range 83W, 6th P.M) and ending at Dorchester Campground (Section 33, Township 12S, Range 84W, 6th P.M) 

The purpose of this Order is to protect Forest visitors, to protect NFS resources and to provide quality recreational opportunities for visitors. 

PROHIBITIONS: 

1. Camping outside of Forest Service developed campgrounds in the Lower Taylor Area, specifically as shown on Exhibit A. 36 CFR § 261.58(e) 

2. Camping within 100 feet of the high water line of the Taylor River from where it enters the Taylor Reservoir to the Dorchester Campground, in the Upper Taylor Area, specifically as shown on Exhibit B. 36 CFR § 261.58(e) 

3. Building, maintaining, or attending, or using a fire or a campfire, except a stove fire, as defined in 36 CFR 261.2, within 100 feet of the high water line of the Taylor River from the point where it enters Taylor Park Reservoir, upstream to its confluence with Trail Creek, and Taylor Park Reservoir in the Upper Taylor Area, more specifically as shown on Exhibit B. 36 CFR § 261.52(a) 

EXEMPTIONS: 

Pursuant to 36 CFR § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order: 

1. Persons with a special use authorization or other Forest Service authorization specifically exempting them from the effect of this Order. 

2. Any Federal, State, or local office, or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force in the performance of an official duty. 

This Order will be in effect on June 9 at 12:00 a.m. and will remain in effect until rescinded or until May 31, 2027, whichever occurs first.

A violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both. 16 USC § 551 and 18 USC §§ 3559, 3571, 3581.
