GUNNISON NATIONAL FOREST 

GUNNISON RANGER DISTRICT 

Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(a), the following acts are prohibited on the National Forest System (NFS) lands on the Gunnison Ranger District, Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests, described below and shown on the attached map incorporated into this Order as Exhibit A (“Tincup Camping Restricted Area”). 

The Described Area is located approximately 30 miles northeast of Gunnison, Colorado in Section 31, Township 14 South, Range 81 West, 6th P.M., and Sections 6, 7, 8, 17, and 18, Township 15 South, Range 81 West, 6th P.M. It is further defined as the NFS lands on the west side of NFS Road (NFSR) 765 between the Rainbow Subdivision and the community of Tincup (from the road to the private land) and the NFS lands within approximately ¼ mile of Tincup and the Tincup Cemetery (extending down to the private land south of Tincup, following the treeline southeast of Tincup, and set back 300 feet from the southern bend in NFSR 765.1 C north of Tincup). 

The purpose of this Order is to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfire and to protect public safety, natural resources, and property. 

PROHIBITIONS: 

1. Camping. 36 C.F.R. § 261.58(e) 

EXEMPTIONS: 

Pursuant to 36 CFR § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order: 

1. Persons with a special use authorization or other Forest Service authorization specifically exempting them from the effect of this Order. 

2. Any Federal, State, or local office, or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force in the performance of an official duty. 

This Order shall be in effect on June 9 at 12:00 a.m. and will remain in effect until rescinded or until May 31, 2027, whichever occurs first. 

This Order supersedes, replaces and rescinds Order No. GMUG-2017-11.

A violation of these prohibitions is punishable as a Class B misdemeanor by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both. 16 USC § 551 and 18 USC §§ 3559, 3571, 3581.
