Alpine Mine #206.1A

The Alpine Mine Trail #206.1A begins at an intersection with the Weehawken Trail #206 and ends at an overlook just past the Alpine Mine. The Weehawken Trail switchbacks as it ascends the hillside on a moderately steep grade, traveling through an aspen forest with mixed conifers. It then enters an open meadow where at approximately 1.3 miles it intersects the Alpine Mine Trail. Stay to the right to continue on the Alpine Mine Trail. The trail continues to climb as it switchbacks its way toward the mine, entering a meadow where it levels off a bit as it traverses a scree-covered slope of a steep drainage. The old mine buildings are in the trees above the trail. The trail then climbs to a ridge. Follow this ridge to a sign marking the way to the Alpine Mine Overlook. The Overlook features 180-degree panoramic views of Ouray in the east, the amphitheater rock formation in the southeast, Twin Peaks to the north, and Hayden Mountain in the south. As well as the numerous other Peaks in the area.
