Burn #522

The Burn Trail #522 serves as a connecting loop from FSR #277 to FSR #265 near the Grand Mesa/Gunnison National Forest Boundary. The trail travels through mixed aspen, spruce/fir, and large open parks. In several locations along the forest boundary, the trail offers scenic vistas of the West Elk Mountains and the surrounding country.

Directions

WESTERN ACCESS:

Travel 14.3 miles east on Highway 330 from the Plateau Creek Bridge in Collbran to its intersection with Buzzard Divide Road, FSR #265. The Buzzard Divide Road is Mesa County Road 71.4 until it enters the Grand Mesa National Forest. Turn right and travel south on FSR #265 approximately 16.0 miles to its intersection with Texas Hill Road, FSR #841. This intersection is located on the Gunnison National Forest, just south of the Grand Mesa/Gunnison National Forest Boundary. Turn left onto FSR #841 and travel 1.5 miles east and north Trailhead for the Burn and the Power Line Trails on the western flank of Oil Well Mountain.

EASTERN ACCESS:

Travel east on Highway 330 for 14.3 miles from the Plateau Creek Bridge in Collbran to its intersection with the Buzzard Divide Road, FSR #265. Turn right onto FSR #265 and travel south 12.7 miles to its intersection with the Burn Road, FSR #277. Turn left onto FSR #277 and travel east approximately 5.9 miles to the Burn Eastern Trailhead.
