Cumberland Basin #579
The Cumberland Basin Trail #579 starts on Forest Service Road 738, Brush Creek Road, and ends at Cumberland Basin. This trail travels within the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness Area. It follows along Middle Brush Creek the entire length, ending at the high Cumberland Basin with spectacular view of Castle Peak, raising up 14,265 feet.
General Information
- A permit is required for overnight stays in Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness Overnight Permit Zones. This permit must be acquired in advance at recreation.gov.
- For all other overnight trips to the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness, registration is required at the trailhead.

Directions
From Crested Butte: Travel south on Hwy 135 for approximately 1.8 miles to County Road 738, Brush Creek Road. Follow CR 738 for approximately 12.8 miles to the beginning of the trail on the west side of the road.
