Cutler Creek #217

The Cutler Creek Trail #217 begins at the Cutler Trailhead on Forest Service Road #872 and ends at its intersection with the Baldy Trail #216 and the Dexter Creek Trail #205. The trail reaches the Uncompahgre Wilderness boundary after approximately 0.3 miles, the Okeson Trail #135 in approximately 1 mile and the Left Fork Cutler Creek Trail #235 in approximately 1.02 miles. It follows Cutler Creek for approximately 1.4 miles heading southeast before turning east and traversing around hillsides as it gains in elevation. The scenery is spectacular with views of the Uncompahgre Peak raising to 14,309 feet, Wetterhorn Peak rising to 14,015 feet and Mount Sneffels rising to 14,157 feet. The trail continues to climb to an elevation of 11,200 feet before dropping down to intersect the Dexter and Baldy Trails.  The majority of this trail is in the Uncompahgre Wilderness where Wilderness Regulations apply.

Directions

Cutler Trailhead:

From Ouray, travel north on Hwy 550 for approximately 1.7 miles to the intersection with County Road 14, Dexter Creek Road. Turn right onto CR 14 and continue for approximately 1 mile to the fork in the road, take the left fork onto CR 14A. Follow CR 14A, which becomes Forest Service Road #872 at the National Forest boundary, for approximately 3 miles to Thistle Park. Here there is a sign for the Cutler Trailhead.
