Elk Park #800A

Elk Park Trail #800A goes in a southwesterly direction after leaving Crater Lake Trail #800. It receives little use and can be somewhat difficult to follow once it begins its ascent to the ridge top dividing the Leroux Creek and Cow Creek drainages. After crossing the divide the trail leaves the Paonia Ranger District and enters the Grand Valley Ranger District where it becomes Elk Park Trail #720. There are many boggy areas along the trail and mosquitoes can be very thick until late in the summer. The weather can change quickly and dramatically in this area with thunderstorms occurring most afternoons in the late summer—be prepared.
