Galloping Goose #499
The Galloping Goose Trail #499 begins on Lizard Head Pass at a trailhead parking area located on the east side of State Highway 145 and proceeds for 17.6 miles north towards Telluride. It travels past a restored train trestle, over two trail bridges, through a highway underpass, and along segments of the historic Rio Grande Southern (RGS) railway. The route is diverse, following forest roads, single track trails, and portions of the historic railroad grade. There are several places the trail can be accessed from Highway 145 and from the Ilium Road between Telluride and Lizard Head Pass as shown on the attached map.

Directions
From Telluride: Travel west on State Highway 145 for approximately 3 miles. Turn south at the first highway intersection onto Highway 145 south. Parking is available on the east side of Hwy 145. Cross the highway and follow Society Drive 1/4 mile to San Miguel River Drive. Take a right on San Miguel River Drive. About 100 yards beyond the bus stop look for a dirt road that drops north toward the San Miguel River. This is the northern end of the Galloping Goose Trail.
