Mailbox #619

The Mailbox Trail #619 travels through vegetation that varies from aspen and ponderosa in the upper elevations, to pinyon and juniper in the lower elevations, with oakbrush present throughout the trail. This trail follows along the Mailbox Drainage for approximately 1.5 miles, however, since the drainage does not always contain water, it provides no fish habitat. The gradual to moderate grade which this trail traverses, could provide difficult ATV travel during spring run-off or adverse weather conditions.

Directions

UPPER ACCESS:

Travel south on the Divide Road, FSR #402, from the Northern Forest Boundary for 13.1 miles to the Upper Mailbox Trailhead.

LOWER ACCESS:

Travel 5.0 miles down the Mailbox Trail itself from the upper trailhead.

Accessed by way of the Leonard’s Ridge Trail. Travel south on the Divide Road, FSR #402, for 9 miles from the Northern Forest Boundary to its intersection with the Uranium Road, FSR #404. Turn right (west) onto the Uranium Road and travel 6.9 miles to Leonard’s Saddle Road, FSR #414. Turn left onto the Leonard’s Saddle Road and travel south/southeast for 1.5 miles to the location where the Leonard’s Saddle Road splits. Take the right fork, FSR #414.1A, and travel an additional 0.2 miles south to the Upper Leonard’s Ridge Trailhead. From there, travel 0.7 miles to the southeast to the Lower Mailbox Trailhead. The Lower Mailbox Trailhead is located at the end of the Leonard’s Ridge Trail just after the Leonard’s Ridge Trail crosses the Massey Branch drainage.
